Gabby wears pink and some folks are seeing red, and Mitt's "loving it".

You know that we have really come to a bad place in this country when commentators on a certain cable news network are making an issue of the outfit that one of our stars from the Olympic games, Gabby Douglas, wore during her routine. They basically said that she isn't "patriotic enough" because she chose to wear pink.

"Gabby Douglas was the topic du jour for Olympic commentators throughout last week, but over the weekend, she became a centerpiece in another manufactured controversy at Fox News, America’s top outlet for manufactured controversies. Douglas’ pink leotard, Fox host Alisyn Camerota lamented, was emblematic of an Olympic “trend” (one that, Fox wants you to believe, is part of a liberal-left conspiracy to rid the world of red, white, and blue) of athletes wearing colors that don’t appear on the American flag..

“Some folks have noticed that the American athletes’ uniforms don’t carry the stars and stripes look as much as they have in past years,” Camerota complained, without any evidence of who “some folks” might be. “The famous flag-styled outfits worn in year’s past replaced with yellow shirts, gray track suits, pink leotards.” Radio host/Tea Partier David Webb later chimed in with a sad tome about how America has “lost over time that jingoistic feeling” because “a soft anti-American feeling that Americans can’t show their exceptionalism..” [More] 

Maybe the folks at FOX NEWS can start training their own athletes for 2016. But a word of caution; if they turn out to be as bad as their on air talent, I am quite sure that America would be shut out of the medal count.    

In other Olympic news, some dude competing in the Judo competition has been banned from the games for testing positive for a banned substance. His explanation for testing positive for the substance is a bit odd.

"Delpopolo, 23, of Westfield, N.J., said he inadvertently ate baked goods that contained marijuana before he departed for the Olympics last month. U.S. Olympic Committee spokesman Patrick Sandusky said the athlete was sent back to the USA on Monday shortly after being notified of the test result.

His disqualification marks the first in-games doping violation announced by the IOC. Four previous offenses involving Olympic athletes resulted from tests conducted prior to the start of Olympic competition.

"I apologize to the U.S. Olympic Committee, to my teammates and to my fans, and I am embarrassed by this mistake," Delpopolo said in a written statement. "I look forward to representing my country in the future, and will rededicate myself to being the best judo athlete that I can be."

Sandusky said the U.S. committee "absolutely" supports the disqualification."[Source]

Not buying it. They are not checking for the good collie weed. If that was the case why didn't any of the Jamaican athletes test positive? I kid, I kid. (Save your e-mails, I am Jamaican, I can joke about this stuff.) 

Anywhoo, good luck with all your future pursuits Mr. Delpopolo, just stay away from the brownies next time.

Finally, I love how wealthy folks throw around their sense of entitlement while showing disdain for poor people.

Mitt Romney is trying his best to activate a very dormant and skeptical base, and his latest nod to them is a trashing of those lazy welfare recipients who depend on the government for handouts. He is trying so hard to blow this dog whistle that he is actually being disingenuous while doing it.

  "Mitt Romney sought to inject the issue of welfare into the presidential campaign here Tuesday, accusing President Obama of dismantling federal welfare reform and creating a “culture of dependency.”

The presumptive Republican nominee charged that the Obama administration has reversed the popular bipartisan welfare reform that President Bill Clinton signed into law in 1996 by allowing waivers for states for welfare work requirements.

“That is wrong. If I’m president, I’ll put work back in welfare,” [Source] 

Yes Mitt, because poor people don't deserve anything unless they work for it.   Bu then there is the story you told us about your daddy:

"Mitt Romney has made no secret of his love for fast food—and it appears he inherited that taste from his dad.

Speaking to supporters at a Chicago fundraiser Tuesday, Romney recognized a member of the audience who had worked at McDonald's, based in nearby Des Plaines, for 27 years—including with the chain's founder, Ray Kroc.

That prompted Romney to tell a story about his father, former Michigan Gov. George Romney, and what he'd found peeking through his father's "top drawer" as a teenager when he was rooting around for spare change.

"I found a little paper card, a little pink card, and it said this entitles George W. Romney to a lifetime of a hamburger, a shake and french fries at McDonald's

"It was signed by the hand of Ray Kroc. My dad had done a little training lesson or whatever for McDonald's when there was just a handful of restaurants, and I saw this thing and was like, 'This is a gold mine, dad! What are you doing?'"

Once he got over the shock, Romney said he had the card laminated for his father.

"My dad, as you know, would go almost every day to a McDonald's restaurant and get either a hamburger or a fish filet sandwich," Romney said. "And he would present this little card and of course the person behind the counter would look and say, 'Well, what is that?' They'd never seen something like that, but he said it was never turned down. They always honored it." [Source]

"Fear of a Black Planet."

Conservative folks in the majority population like to accuse Negroes of playing the victim card. (Just read the anonymous comments on this blog after any post that deals with politics) But honestly, is there anyone playing the victim card any better than conservative white males these days? They have become so good at it that some of them have actually started buying into this piece of false narrative. And, of course, the media arm of the movement, FOX NEWS,has decided that it is good for ratings to   feature the scary black monsters roaming our streets.

"A while back Bill O’Reilly, the most watched TV personality on Fox News, ran a series of stories on what he suggests is a “racially motivated” attack on two white journalists in Norfolk, Virginia that he claimed was covered up by the local press. As Buzzfeed’s McKay Coppins details, the facts reveal a different reality: a rock was thrown at a car, the occupants had an argument with a group of men and a fight ensued. The reporters were not severely injured. Although an unfortunate incident in a city that is struggling with violent crime, it was neither particularly noteworthy or an anomaly. In fact, the newspaper for which the journalists worked thought the event was a non-story. This did not deter Bill O’Reilly. He could frame the story as part of a national race war by introducing one fact--the victims of the assault were white and the perpetrators were black.

The National Review’s Thomas Sowell legitimated this narrative of a race war against whites in a column which circulated widely throughout the Right-wing media and blogosphere. There he listed a series of such assaults in major cities such as Chicago, New York, Cleveland, and Los Angeles, which involved groups of young black people committing random assaults on pedestrians, robbing people of their cell phones and Ipods, and fighting on beaches and in malls...

The Conservative media’s race war narrative falls apart when one encounters the facts. In an effort to stir up white anxiety, these stories ignore that violent crime in the United States has been declining for decades. Isn't it ironic how this fear of a black planet got amped up after the election of a beige president? It's as if it opened their eyes to the realization that, if not checked, the Negro could actually gain some real institutional power in America.   

Of course creating fear in the hearts of the majority population by making the Negro some type of monster to be feared is nothing new. Various groups used it quite effectively in the past to terrorize blacks folks. Nothing has changed. We just have a different name for those who would terrorize and they have become more sophisticated with their terror tactics.

Yes, we get it. It's why a certain vigilante in Central Florida can always count on online donations and support from certain people. He took out one of the "giant Negroes". Stop me if you have heard this one before: "Why is that man in jail? He deserves a medal."

Places like Iowa and Wisconsin do not have large populations of black people; but in the conservative media, this is no protection from the race war apparently being waged against white Americans. Now most of these white folks who fear the black planet will see black folks mostly on television and in movies throughout their lives. These are not people who travel much or get outside of their comfort zone. They don't interact with you Negroes on a regular basis. The one who calls himself their president is the one they hate the most. Because he always appears to them from a position of power. To them, he is the most dangerous Negro of all.

I know that folks think that I go out and look for stuff to use in order to pick on my wingnut friends, but I really don't. Sometimes this stuff just comes to me. All I have to do is pick up the paper and read.

"In the politically-charged and likely protest-filled streets of Tampa, Fla., during the Republican National Convention in August, water guns will be strictly prohibited. Concealed handguns, on the other hand, will be perfectly legal.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott said this week that banning handguns from downtown Tampa during the convention, as the city's Mayor Bob Buckhorn requested, "would surely violate the Second Amendment."

"It is unclear how disarming law-abiding citizens would better protect them from the dangers and threats posed by those who would flout the law," Scott said in a letter to Buckhorn Tuesday, emphasizing the words "law-abiding." "It is at just such times that the constitutional right of self defense is most precious and must be protected from government overreach."

Buckhorn said today that he was "disappointed" by Scott's decision, but that the city will "plan and train accordingly."

Tampa officials are expecting thousands of protesters to descend on the Florida metropolis for the GOP convention. While no handguns will be allowed inside the convention, which is being protected by the Secret Service, concealed carry license-holders will be able to carry their weapons in the streets surrounding the convention.

They will not, however, be able to have "super soaker" water guns, sticks, poles, portable shields or glass bottles.

Buckhorn said last month that the state law, which prohibits the city from temporarily banning handguns, makes the city "look silly" because officials can prohibit water guns but not real ones.." [Source]

I guess that to my wingnuts friends, a little water can be a dangerous thing.

Finally, you can thank a wingnut blogger named Matt Drudge for the non- stories you will be hearing about O over the next few months leading up to the 2012 elections. (Dude looks like he should be registered as a sex offender. Don't sue me Matt. You will lose.) In case you were wondering, Mr. Drudge is a hack for the Romney campaign and he feeds FOX NEWS and the rest of the GOP their talking points every day. The sad thing is that Mr. Drudge has a knack for making a mountain out of a molehill. And, in some cases, creating the illusion of a mountain where there really is none.

This latest story is a perfect example:

"Above is a screen-shot of DrudgeReport.com earlier today, *see insert* linking to a story about President Obama’s past. Pretty exciting stuff: “Obama Admits Fabricating Girlfriend in Memoir.”

Those who jumped on that link reached a Politico story with this headline: “Obama: ‘New York girlfriend’ was composite.” That piece was a work of aggregation, based on the new Vanity Fair book excerpt of David Maraniss’s “Barack Obama: The Story.”

The excerpt plumbs Obama’s romance with Genevieve Cook, a woman he’d met at a party in 1983. Maraniss goes deep into the relationship, with some able assistance from Cook’s journal entries. One of them reads:

Today, for the first time, Barack sat on the edge of the bed — dressed — blue jeans and luscious ladies on his chest [a comfy T-shirt depicting buxom women], the end of the front section of the Sunday Times in his hand, looking out the window, and the quality of light reflected from his eyes, windows of the soul, heart, and mind, was so clear, so unmasked, his eyes narrower than he usually holds them looking out the window, usually too aware of me.

Though Obama references this relationship in his memoir “Dreams From My Father,” he doesn’t name Cook. Maraniss addresses this omission in the Vanity Fair excerpt:

Decades later, during an interview in the Oval Office, Obama acknowledged that, while Genevieve was his New York girlfriend, the description in his memoir was a “compression” of girlfriends, including one who followed Genevieve when he lived in Chicago.

Politico hopped on the matter, with media reporter Dylan Byers writing, in part: “But Obama has now told biographer David Maraniss that the ‘New York girlfriend’ was actually a composite character, based off of multiple girlfriends he had both in New York City and in Chicago.”

"Okay, but way back Obama told the whole world that characters in that book were composites. From the introduction to “Dreams From My Father”: “For the sake of compression, some of the characters that appear are composites of people I’ve known, and some events appear out of precise chronology. With the exception of my family and a handful of public figures, the names of most characters have been changed for the sake of privacy.”

In other words, there’s nothing at all surprising about this composite thing.
Byers defends the value of his post: “The news that the ‘New York girlfriend’ is a composite character is new. Though Obama acknowledges the use of composite characters in his introduction, he does not specify which characters he is referring to. It thus seemed like a relevant item.” An update and correction to the post clarify that it initially overplayed the story by leaving out a critical detail:

UPDATE: In the reissue of “Dreams from My Father,” Obama writes in the introduction that “some of the characters that appear are composites of people I’ve known.”

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this blog post stated that Obama had acknowledged using composite characters in the reissue. In fact, Obama acknowledged the use of composite characters in the first edition of the book...

Obama’s shortcut of constructing composites was a lame and lazy way to put together a memoir. But if you signal to the reader that it’s the route you’re taking, it’s no lie. The "Nig" in chief.

I wish Ricky (I should be in a) Sanitarium could control himself sometimes. I know all republicans think it, but at least they can control themselves. Ricky, on the other hand, not so much.

Poor Rick. Him of the now infamous "blah people" gaffe. This time around he caught himself before dropping the N word. Oh my! The 24 hour cable news folks would have had fun with that one.

"In this speech, he had been blasting Barack Obama for all things real and imagined. Then where this clip begins Santorum continues "We know the candidate Barack Obama...what he was like. The anti-war, government nig... (insert stumble here)."

FOX NEWS: "Well, I am sure he didn't mean Nigger as in black people are Niggers, Bill. What he wanted to say is that Obama is Niggardly when it comes to the government and the war." "Of course, I mean we all know that the man is not a racist. How could he be and be so devoted to his church....."

Anywhoo, all is well that ends well. Unfortunately for Ricky he was not going to be the candidate that faces his Oness come November. He was dying a slow death by a thousand dollar bills.

It's actually a shame, because I wanted him to hang in there a little longer. Now it looks like the candidate who can keep his thoughts to himself and keep his mouth in check will be the party standard- bearer.

I bet he won't call O a "Nig". At least not publicly.

Finally, while we are all outraged about Trayvon Martin, let's not forget that this kind of thing is par for the course for black men in A-merry-ca. I bring you a story from the ironically named town of White  Plains, New York. (h/t Tia for this story)

Kenneth Chamberlain, Sr., a 68-year-old African-American Marine veteran, was fatally shot in November by White Plains, NY, police who responded to a false alarm from his medical alert pendant. The officers broke down Chamberlain’s door, tasered him, and then shot him dead. Audio of the entire incident was recorded by the medical alert device in Chamberlain’s apartment. We’re joined by family attorneys and Chamberlain’s son, Kenneth Chamberlain, Jr., who struggles through tears to recount his father’s final moments, including the way police officers mocked his father’s past as a marine. "For them to look at my father that way, (with) no regard for his life, every morning I think about it," he says."

No end in sight for Uncle Rupert.

I know that I said I would stop bashing FOX NEWS in my posts, but I lied.

Here is a shock, Bill O-Liely is actually sticking up for his Uncle Rupert in these scandals that are rocking the News Corp Empire. Bill seems to think that this is much ado about nothing, and that it is a left wing media "witch hunt" to get to those pillars of virtue over at FOX.

In fact, wingnut central is hardly covering the scandal. But fortunately, the rest of A-merry-ca is starting to take notice.

"You have the New York Times absolutely running wild with the story," he said. "Front page, front page, front page. Column, column, column. Vicious stuff, vicious stuff. And it's all ideological, is it not?"

Bill, they are only "running wild" because it is a big story. Folks, can you imagine if we were talking about Ted Turner or George Soros and not Uncle Rupert? You would see more BREAKING NEWS headlines on FOX than dumb blondes and jigging Negroes.

The folks over at FOX are praying that this scandal will go away, but it won't. I suspect that the stuff going on across the pond is just the tip of a very large iceberg. I hope that we can finally rid ourselves of this scumbag and his evil corporation. Money can buy you a lot, but it can't hide the truth.

"Glenn Beck laughed about the death of a whistleblower involved in the phone hacking scandal and asked listeners to "pray" that Fox News was not involved in the crisis.

On his Tuesday show, Beck joked about the death of Sean Hoare, who was the first journalist to go on the record about the phone-hacking crisis at the News of the World in a 2010 New York Times article. Hoare was found dead in his London home on Monday. Beck said he loved the story of the death.
"I'm not saying that foul play was involved, but it is suspicious that he's dead," Beck said, laughing. (On Tuesday, police categorically concluded that no third party was involved in Hoare's death.)

He then joked that Vladimir Putin was involved in the death, before turning to Fox News, which, like the News of the World, is owned by News Corp.
Beck said he was worried that the scandal would be used by opponents of Fox News to try and bring it down, but that, as far as he knew, there had never been a hint of a scandal at the network.

"Pray that that is so and that they are thwarted," Beck said. "...They will use this and it will shut down."' [Source]

Yes Glenn, I will be praying for FOX NEWS, but I don't think you would like to hear what I will be telling the big guy.

HERO?

I am blogging all over the place tonight. I have to get as much as possible off my chest, because, let's face it, we all might not be here tomorrow.

Anyway, I will start with Lance Armstrong. Is there any doubt now that he is a cheater? I know that it's blasphemous to utter those words about one of A-merry-ca's darlings, but it's time we acknowledge the juiced up elephant in the room. One former teammate might have been lying, but two? Come on now.

Sometimes it's hard to admit to ourselves that our heroes aren't as pure as we would like them to be, but at some point we have to let the chips fall where they may. Armstrong's manager has declared that his latest accuser and former wing man and teammate is a liar. But here is the thing; if all these people are lying why doesn't Lance sue them? I will tell you why, because the truth is always a defense in defamation claims.

Speaking of lies, let me move on to FOX NEWS. I see that Rupert and his crew are embroiled in a scandal across the pond which could have far reaching implications here in A-merry-ca. (h/t Greg Fuller) The FOX NEWS folks have been hacking phones to get news and their claims that they had no knowledge of the rogue reporter who was doing these dastardly deeds doesn't seem to be flying.

It couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch.

Oh Lawd! Is it me, or does it seem like my man Tavis is tag teaming his O ness with Dr. West?

Tavis is putting his O ness on blast for black unemployment and wants something done NOW!

I know Tavis, if only Hillary was Prez. all of us Negroes would have jobs.

O, you better be careful, if these Negroes leave your side you won't have a shot at getting reelected.
