Friday Cover Up - Double Lives Crumble In One Fell Swoop

Because I missed last week, here are two excellent covers to round out a full on week. First we have this dark and morose cover of The Cars' 'Double Life' by typically dark and morose LA heathens Cold Showers. It features the Vivian Girls' Katy Goodman lurking in the background, and can be found on the Decay 7" out now through Art Fag - buy it here.

Cold Showers - Double Life (The Cars cover)

Sarah Chadwick has stepped away from Batrider for a bit to do some solo work - you can hear some other tracks on her Bandcamp - and this cover of Chris Knox's 'One Fell Swoop' is bloody ace. She can do no wrong in my eyes. She is bringing out a release called Eating For Two in August on Brisbane's fine Bedroom Suck label - I'll keep an eye out for that one, as should you.

Have a good weekend folks!

School Knights

Those snotty slackos School Knights have a couple new tunes floating around the ether. After the disappointing news that the fucking rad SK/Night Manager split isn't likely to materialise, it's good to hear these guys are still throwing their shit at their teenage bedroom walls. Take that, MOM! Yeah, these two tracks in particular play the Wavves card, but when the flat-brim cap fits... It's goddamn catchy, a veritable KFC bucketload of fun, plus it's a bit meatier - the duo of Michael Stein and Zack Roif are now a foursome, thanks to Morris Kolontyrsky and Ben Donehower! Radness! And it is honed (as much as this shit can be honed) with some ace tours last year opposite Ty Segall, Black Lips, Cloud Nothings, Vivian Girls and Gauntlet Hair. Yeah, I just came a little too...

New La Sera!

Yeah, so I have an Achilles heel, and her name is Katy Goodman. La Sera's new single, 'Break My Heart', is out, and 2nd LP See The Light isn't far off either (March 24 on Hardly Art, to be exact). It's signature dreamy garage pop, and I really enjoy it. I'm not even sure if this is bias or not, though...

La Sera - Break My Heart

Yes, I'll Be Your Third Eye (Times Forever)

Out of all Vivian Girls offshoots and side-projects (and there are quite a few), Katy Goodman's La Sera is by far the best. And this track - holy shit. Hooked up to the eyeballs! I want to go to there. Seriously, it's so sweet, yet not sickly so, and Goodman's vocals are pitch perfect. I'm really looking forward to the new album, Sees The Light. Really, this track is soundtracking my way through this week - well, that and Terry Malts, I'm gonna OD on fuzzy sugar. But when it sounds so good, I'm gone.

La Sera - Please Be My Third Eye

And in case the aural pleasures aren't enough, try the visuals...

I'm so in love... Sees The Light comes out on Hardly Art in March.
