LUKE WATSON IS NOW BLACK

Luke Watson the stormers rugby player is black according to Ebrahim Rasool, whose name might seem familiar as it should, he is the Western Cape premier. For more on the story click here

It really saddens me to read such things, especially when they are said by people who are supposedly important in this country. I am not going to delve into whether Watson should be in the squad or not, it is not relevant to how the article made me feel.

Reading things like this "Ebrahim Rasool says he regards Western Province skipper Luke Watson as a "black player" and he should therefore be included in the Springbok team ahead of "white" players of equal talent" and this ""Given where he comes from, and where his father deliberately chose to play his rugby, on the dusty, pot-holed fields of the Eastern Cape's townships, Luke comes from a historically disadvantaged community," Rasool said. " makes me wonder.

My Grandfather was instrumental in setting up various institutions that are making a huge difference to the previously disadvantaged today, does that make me qualify for a BEE position???

NO!!! OF COURSE NOT!!!!!!! I am just as black as Watson and he is just as white as I am. HOWEVER I am an african, I believe myself to be a true African person, regardless of my skin, and regardless of what Rasool says Watson is white like I am.

Watson might well have been part of the struggle for liberating South Africa and thus be considered an African but when we are going to start insinuating things like Rasool has I get images of the "pencil test" History tells us that it was wrong, now Rasool the FLIPPING WESTERN CAPE PREMIER feels like re-categorising people's colour on the beliefs of their parents!!!

This can only be a dark and dangerous to take, and it brings sadness to me, that such people like Rasool, can make the front page of the Cape Times with such irrational statements.
