Low Fat Soup Recipes -Chicken Soup

Soups are beneficial for those who wish to live a healthy life. Soup is a wholesome type of food, low in calories and help fight disease and infection. Soup forms an important diet for the sick and also good for children.  Chicken contains an amino acid which is released when boiled, this in turn helps thin the mucus in the lungs, this is the reason a hot chicken soup is an all time favorite for many centuries to treat a cold. If you want to boost your immune system then chicken soup is the right choice. Chicken soup can be made by boiling the chicken with the bones and adding the right spices like pepper, ginger, onion and garlic to enhance the flavour and taste. Chicken soup can be made into a relatively low fat food by chilling the soup first after it is made and then removing the fat from the top.

Chopped Onion1
Shredded Chicken200 Gms.
Boiling Water750 ml / 1 pint
Chopped Garlic1/2 pod
Olive Oil1 Tsp.
Cinnamon Powder1 Tsp.
Soya Sauce1 Tsp.
Skimmed milk1/4 pint/ 125 ml.
Chopped Parsley1 Tbsp.
Salt and PepperTo Taste
Dried Sage 1/2 Tsp.


  1. Heat oil and fry onions till transparent.
  2. Add chicken and fry till it turns color.
  3. Add the soysauce, sage, cinnamon powder and chopped garlic and fry for another few minutes.
  4. Pour the boiling water and slow cook for 1 hour.
  5. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Mix skimmed milk with the soup and keep on very low flame for 10 minutes, do not let it boil.
  7. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
