Crystal Palace strode triumphantly into Division One amid amazing scenes when Ian Wright scored a stunning winner three minutes from the end of time in the second leg of their promotion play-off at Selhurst Park. En 1989, Crystal Palace parvient à se hisser dans le ” Top Four ” de la seconde division et gagne son accession en première division à l’occasion des barrages. Palace validant son ticket en remportant le match retour des barrages, 3-0 face aux Blackburn Rovers avec deux buts de Wright.
