Now for my post:
Some of you know how I feel about the over the top celebrations of high school graduations. I have blogged about it in the past. I am not crazy about making a big deal about getting past the first step in what should be a long educational process. Still, I understand the importance of having a family member achieve an educational goal, and that to some families a high school diploma is somewhat of a big deal.
Having said that, I truly don't know what to make of my cousin Shannon going crazy at her daughter's graduation down in South Carolina. Shannon could have chilled a little bit, but did they really have to arrest her?
"A Myrtle Beach teen's high school graduation on Saturday was ruined when her excited mom, Shannon Cooper, was arrested for cheering.
Although parents were reportedly warned that they would be asked to leave the auditorium where the ceremony was held if they applauded for individual students receiving their diplomas, Cooper disagreed with the policy. She told WPDE NewsChannel 15 that she decided, "I'm going to cheer, because…I've gone through too much to get her to this point." She added incredulously, "I can't let her know 'I'm so proud of you?'"
When her daughter Iesha crossed the stage, Cooper claims that, "I got up and I said: 'Yay, my baby made it! Just a regular cheer.'" That's when police handcuffed her, escorted her to a van outside of the venue, and charged her with disorderly conduct. After the ceremony, her daughter broke down in tears when she spotted her mom being held in the van. "Are ya'll serious? Are ya'll for real? I mean, that's what I'm thinking in my mind," says Cooper. "I didn't say anything. I was just like okay, I can't fight the law." She challenges the validity of the disorderly conduct charge since she says she fully cooperated with police. She and her daughter also assert that others were cheering and avoided arrest."

OK, I am not crazy about Shannon cheering on her daughter, but an arrest? I still can't get over that. Man they sure love locking up you Negroes in some parts of the country. Had that been Mrs....oh never mind, you all know what I was going to say.
That teen's high school graduation was not ruined because of her mom's actions. It was ruined because of the actions of the local po po.
Finally, I know that a lot of you liberals were pissed when wingnut governor, Scott Walker, beat back his recall last night. But I honestly did not know that you folks in cheese country were so passionate about your politics.
MILWAUKEE - It must have stung for Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett to call Gov. Scott Walker and concede defeat Tuesday night, but not nearly as much as the slap he got from a supporter angry over his concession speech.
Shortly after 10 p.m. local time, Barrett took the stage at his election night rally in downtown Milwaukee. By then, networks had projected Walker as the winner of the recall race.
"I just got off the phone with Gov. Walker and congratulated him on his victory tonight," Barrett said, prompting boos from the crowd. "We agreed that it is important for us to work together."
"No!" shouted the crowd.
Afterwards, as Barrett greeted his supporters, a woman approached him and reportedly asked, "Can I slap you?" Barrett replied that he would prefer that she hugged him, so he leaned down, anticipating a hug but instead got the slap that she had requested. In the video of the incident, Barrett's head jerks back from the slap. [Source]
Now I do not support assaulting anyone, it is against the law and it goes contrary to what we are trying to achieve in a civilized society. So in no way do I condone what this woman did to Mayor Barrett. But.... let's just say that I understand it.
I know what a lot of you are thinking: Wouldn't it be be nice if this woman could just go down to Washington and start slapping folks?
